Two Campaign Tweaks That Triple Email Conversion Rates

15 Jul 2025 · 3 min read

Split your campaigns by purchasing history

Most ecommerce brands send the exact same email campaign to their entire list and wonder why their revenue per recipient stays flat. In our agency, we see client conversion rates hit up to three times the industry average simply by separating one audience into two distinct groups: engaged purchasers and engaged non-purchasers.

For more detail, see Three 10-Minute Klaviyo Tweaks to Unlock Hidden Revenue.

Around 80% of your total email marketing revenue will come from people who have already bought from you once. Your primary job with non-purchasers is to push them over that initial hurdle so they enter your customer segment. Sending identical messaging to both groups wastes that opportunity.

That is a mistake.

How to build the engaged non-purchaser segment in Klaviyo

To set this up, create two parallel segments in Klaviyo. Your engaged non-purchaser segment captures people who interact with your brand regularly but have never completed a checkout.

Here are the criteria I use to build this segment:

  • Has opened email at least once in the last 120 days OR
  • Has clicked email at least once in the last 120 days OR
  • Has been active on site in the last 120 days OR
  • Has viewed product, added to cart, or started checkout in the last 120 days OR
  • Has subscribed to list in the last 30 days AND
  • Can receive email marketing AND
  • Placed order equals 0 times overall time.

You might look at those engagement triggers and think some of them overlap. They do. However, tracking pixels occasionally fail to capture an event, so stacking these conditions ensures nobody slips through the cracks. Make sure you use AND connectors for the subscription status and zero-order condition.

Adjusting your engagement window for deliverability

I typically start with a 120-day window for engaged subscribers if account deliverability is healthy. In my books, healthy deliverability means your campaign open rates sit comfortably between 40% and 55%.

For more detail, see How to reduce high email bounce rates in your Klaviyo account.

The moment open rates begin dipping toward 30%, you need to pull back. Tighten your window from 120 days down to 90 days or even 60 days. Being more restrictive protects your sender reputation with mailbox providers until your engagement numbers climb back up.

Reiterating your welcome discount in every campaign

Once your two segments are ready, build your campaign as normal for your existing customers. Then, clone that exact campaign for your engaged non-purchasers, with one deliberate change: add a dynamic banner or block reiterating the discount code they received in their welcome series.

You already offered them a discount on your pop-up form and inside their welcome flows. If they have not purchased yet, there is no downside to reminding them that their initial code is still waiting. Re-serving that offer across every regular campaign send removes friction and dramatically lifts first-time conversion rates.

Bake real social proof into every email layout

The second non-negotiable tweak is embedding social proof into every single email template. You should never assume an engaged subscriber is entirely sold on your product quality, even if they have been clicking your links for weeks.

Include a dedicated social proof block near the bottom of your emails containing:

  • A specific total customer count (for example, "Over 4,000 happy customers")
  • A direct quote from a verified customer review
  • A real customer photo alongside their name, if your review platform captures images

Social proof works because it reduces the perceived risk for hesitant shoppers. When a non-buyer sees an authentic review right next to the discount code you just reminded them about, the decision to purchase becomes straightforward.

Final Thoughts

You do not need complicated flow architectures to see a jump in your campaign conversion metrics. Split your sends by purchase history, re-state your welcome offer to non-buyers, and anchor every message with genuine customer proof. It is a repeatable habit that moves subscribers into your customer segment faster.
