The Case for Pop-Up Teasers
Most visitors dismiss your pop-up form within three seconds of landing on your site. They have not even looked at your products yet, so offering them 10% off before they know what you sell usually gets an instinctive tap on the close button.
Once that modal disappears, the chance to collect their email address is gone. Unless you give them an easy way to bring it back.
That is where pop-up teasers come in. In my books, adding a teaser to your Klaviyo forms is one of the easiest quick wins for growing your subscriber list faster.
What a Teaser Actually Does
A teaser is a persistent, minimised badge that sits on the edge of your screen. It can appear before the main pop-up triggers, or more commonly, remain visible after a visitor closes the main modal.
Think of it as a low-friction bookmark. When a shopper finally finds an item they want to buy twenty minutes into browsing, they do not have to refresh the page or hunt through their cache to find that initial discount offer.
They simply tap the teaser, the sign-up modal pops back up, they submit their details, and they complete their purchase. It solves the biggest flaw of standard pop-up modals in one move.
The Conversion Data: Mobile and Desktop Results
Here is the thing: adding teasers is not just a nice aesthetic touch. The difference it makes to raw sign-up conversion rates is substantial.
In a recent split test we ran over a 2-day period, we tested an identical pop-up form with and without a teaser enabled. The numbers speak for themselves:
- Mobile with teaser: 12.22% conversion rate
- Mobile without teaser: 7.44% conversion rate
- Desktop with teaser: 9.00% conversion rate
- Desktop without teaser: 7.30% conversion rate
On mobile, adding a simple teaser generated a 64% relative increase in form submissions. That is a massive lift for a setting that takes roughly two minutes to configure in Klaviyo.
How to Configure Teasers in Klaviyo
Setting these up inside Klaviyo is straightforward. When editing your sign-up form, you will find the Teaser tab directly above your main modal editor.
You have full control over the styling and display rules. Here is how I prefer to set them up:
- Placement: Bottom left or bottom right corner so it stays out of the way of standard navigation and cart slide-outs.
- Shape and size: Klaviyo lets you choose between corner tabs and standalone shapes (like circles or rectangles). Keep it compact on mobile so it does not block product images.
- Copy: Keep it blunt and value-focused. Something simple like "Get 10% Off" or "Unlock Offer" works far better than vague branding.
- Colours: Match your primary brand palette with enough contrast so it remains visible against your website background.
Make sure you review the mobile view separately. A teaser that looks perfectly balanced on desktop can easily cover important checkout or filter buttons on a smartphone screen if you make it too large.
Why Mobile Shoppers Respond Better to Teasers
The gap between the teaser and non-teaser version on desktop was noticeable, but the mobile lift was massive. Why such a stark difference?
Mobile screen space is cramped. When a full-screen pop-up covers a mobile viewport, users close it almost reflexively just to see the store.
Having that subtle, persistent badge floating in the corner removes the frustration. Shoppers can browse freely, add items to cart, and pull up the form on their own terms when they reach the checkout stage. You give control back to the visitor, and they reward you with their email.
Final Thoughts
If you are running pop-up forms in Klaviyo without teasers, you are leaving clean subscriber growth on the table. It is one of the simplest levers to pull to lift list growth without increasing ad spend.
Turn them on, test your copy and placement, and monitor your conversion rates over the next week.
