Start in the Klaviyo Integrations Hub
Integrating Klaviyo with WooCommerce is straightforward, but people often get caught in redirect loops when they do it in the wrong order. You can get the entire integration up and running in roughly 5 to 10 minutes if you follow the right sequence.
First, log into your Klaviyo dashboard. Head over to the left-hand navigation menu, click on Integrations, and then select Explore Apps. Search for WooCommerce in the directory and click install to start the connection process.
Klaviyo will prompt you to connect to WooCommerce, which directs you toward the extension marketplace. Keep this tab open while you jump across to WordPress.
Download the Free Plugin from WooCommerce
Here is where store owners get hesitant: the integration requires adding a plugin through the official WooCommerce marketplace. The plugin costs $0, so you do not need to worry about surprise charges on your card.
Go through the WooCommerce checkout process for the Klaviyo extension, complete the free order, and click Add to store. If you manage multiple WordPress installations or client accounts, make sure you select the exact store domain you want to link.
Once selected, WordPress will automatically download and prepare the extension on your website backend. It takes about 30 seconds to complete.
Activate the Plugin in WordPress
Once the extension lands in your store, navigate to your WordPress admin dashboard. Head to Plugins on the left-hand menu to confirm the Klaviyo extension is present.
Find Klaviyo in your installed plugins list and click Activate. If you previously had an older version installed, click reactivate to refresh the authentication tokens.
After activation, head to the plugin settings and click Connect Account. WordPress will prompt you to approve permissions, giving Klaviyo read and write access to your store data. Click approve to finalise the handshake. That's the technical link completed.
Map Your Checkout Consent Lists
Once the handshake is approved, Klaviyo will ask you to configure how customer data flows into your account. Do not rush past this screen because getting your list mapping wrong creates messy segmentation problems later.
You will see an option to add a marketing consent checkbox to your WooCommerce checkout page. Tick this box. When a customer opts in during checkout, you need their email routed directly to your main newsletter list (the list that triggers your welcome series).
Once you click Complete Setup, head back into Klaviyo to verify that data is syncing cleanly. Navigate to Analytics and open your Metrics tab.
You should immediately see standard WooCommerce metrics populating in real time, including:
Placed Order: Tracks every completed purchase along with line items and order totals.
Ordered Product: Tracks individual items purchased for granular product-based segmentation.
Started Checkout: Essential for triggering your abandoned checkout flow.
Fulfilled Order: Tracks when items ship, ideal for post-purchase transactional updates.
Place a test order on your site if your store is brand new. If you see the Placed Order event appear under your activity feed within 2 minutes, your sync is healthy and ready to use.
Final Thoughts
Integrating WooCommerce with Klaviyo gives you access to full behavioural tracking and reliable automated flows. Follow the sequence, authorise permissions properly, and make sure your checkout consent maps to your main list. Once the metrics start flowing, you can turn on your core automations with complete confidence.
