Faster Canvas Navigation and Zoom Controls
Usually when a software platform introduces a major redesign to a core feature, I am not a big fan. Most updates add friction rather than remove it. Klaviyo's updated flow builder is actually a solid improvement, and we have already begun using it across client accounts.
The first noticeable change is the canvas navigation. You get a dedicated navigation map in the corner that lets you pan across massive automation sequences without getting lost. The zoom scale now ranges from roughly 25% all the way to 200%, making high-level architecture checks much simpler on complex builds.
Snappier Block Creation Without the Lag
Speed is the single biggest operational improvement in this interface. In the previous builder, dropping an email block, a time delay, or a conditional split resulted in a noticeable loading pause every single time. That delay added up over an afternoon of building.
With the new builder, you can right-click and add multiple emails, time delays, and splits in rapid succession. The actions happen instantaneously. If you manage large accounts with dozens of active customer journeys, cutting out that rendering lag saves genuine hours every month.
Inline Subject and Preview Text Editing
Klaviyo reworked the right-hand context panel to keep you out of the full email template editor as much as possible. You can now edit the subject line, adjust the preview text, and run the subject line assistant directly from the main canvas.
In the past, tweaking a snippet of preview text meant opening the message editor, waiting for the template to render, making the edit, and backing out. Handling message settings and UTM tracking directly inside the sidebar is a much cleaner workflow. It keeps your attention on the overall logic of the sequence.
Smart Sending and Setting Visibility Changes
The interface is cleaner, but one functional downgrade is how settings like Smart Sending are displayed. In the legacy builder, status icons sat visibly on each email node so you could immediately see which safeguards were enabled across an entire sequence.
In the new builder, those indicators are less prominent unless you actively select the block. That is a mistake. When reviewing an automation containing 10 or 15 touchpoints, you want instant visual confirmation of your send settings without clicking into every single message node.
The Visual Layout of Complex Splits
Trigger splits function normally, though keep in mind they only appear in the menu if your flow trigger actually passes event-level data (such as a Viewed Product or Started Checkout event). However, the way Klaviyo visually renders branch recombinations needs improvement.
When you set up a 50/50 random sample split with different time delays (for example, 30 minutes on one branch and 45 minutes on the other), the visual paths stagger strangely on the canvas. The lines loop in a way that suggests recipients move backwards up into previous steps rather than chronologically down the funnel. It makes complex splits look far more confusing than they actually are.
Final Thoughts
The new Klaviyo flow builder is significantly faster and makes day-to-day automation builds less tedious. While the visual rendering of split paths is somewhat messy and setting badges should be clearer, the raw speed gains make switching to it an easy decision.
