How to Increase Product Page Email Sign-ups in Klaviyo

28 Feb 2025 · 3 min read

The Problem with Standard Pop-up Timing

Most ecommerce stores run a single site-wide pop-up offering 10% or 20% off. It typically triggers after roughly 8 seconds. That is standard practice, and you should keep it in place, but you also need to accept how shoppers behave.

Most people instinctively close that first pop-up. They just landed on your site, they want to browse, and they are not ready to hand over their email address yet. Once they close it, they rarely get another chance to grab that discount.

That is a missed opportunity. When a visitor spends 45 seconds browsing a specific product page, their purchase intent is significantly higher than when they landed on your homepage. Giving them a second opportunity to opt in directly on the product page changes everything.

Building a Secondary Flyout Form in Klaviyo

Instead of hitting them with another disruptive modal pop-up, you want to use a flyout form. A flyout docks neatly in the bottom right corner of the screen without blocking the product images or the add-to-cart button.

To set this up, clone your existing welcome pop-up inside Klaviyo. Head into the style settings and change the form type from pop-up to flyout. Keep the offer consistent with your main sign-up incentive so you do not confuse shoppers.

One thing I like to do is build separate versions for desktop and mobile. A flyout that looks great on a desktop monitor will often crowd a mobile screen. Building dedicated forms for each device lets you control the layout and styling cleanly.

Targeting High-Intent Product Viewers

The magic of this strategy lies entirely in the targeting and behaviour settings. If you get these wrong, you will annoy your visitors. If you get them right, you will see a reliable lift in your list growth.

Inside your form settings in Klaviyo, apply the following rules:

  • Time delay: Set the form to display after a 45-second delay.
  • Frequency: If a visitor closes the form, set it to show again only after 5 days.
  • Profile targeting: Do not show to existing Klaviyo profiles so existing subscribers never see it.
  • URL targeting: Set the form to show only on URLs containing the word “product” (or “products” depending on your store structure).

Fewer people will see this form because not every visitor stays on a product page for 45 seconds. But the people who do see it convert at a substantially higher rate.

Capturing Zero-Party Data for Segmentation

When someone is on a product page, they are already signalling what they care about. You can use this secondary form to capture valuable zero-party data without adding friction to the sign-up process.

Add a simple radio button or dropdown step asking for their primary interest or category preference. For example, if you run an outdoor brand, you might ask whether they are shopping for camping gear, fishing accessories, or apparel.

We use those custom properties to trigger splits inside the welcome flow. If someone signs up and selects fishing gear, their automated welcome emails speak directly to fishing products rather than generic brand messaging. Relevant copy drives conversions.

The Success Step: Never Send Shoppers to Their Inbox

Here is a common mistake I see brands make constantly. A shopper opts in on a product page, and the confirmation screen tells them to go check their inbox for their discount code.

That is a mistake.

Forcing a high-intent shopper off your product page and into their email app introduces massive friction. Once they leave your site, they get distracted by unread emails, notifications, and competitor promos. Many of them never come back.

Instead, configure the success step of your Klaviyo form to display the discount code directly on screen. Set the call-to-action button to automatically apply the discount code to their checkout session. Keep them on the page and make it effortless for them to complete the purchase.

Final Thoughts

Your main pop-up catches the quick converters, but a product page flyout captures the considered buyers. Setting up a 45-second flyout targeting product URLs gives shoppers a second chance to claim their discount right when their purchase intent peaks. It grows your list faster and keeps buyers moving toward checkout.
