Review: Using Ripple AI to Design Klaviyo Campaigns

11 Oct 2024 · 3 min read

What Ripple AI actually does

Ripple is an AI-powered design platform that creates email templates from scratch, connects directly to Shopify and Klaviyo, and lets you schedule full campaigns without touching your ESP. It is built to speed up the repetitive production work that goes into regular email sends.

In our agency, we have copywriters, graphic designers, and builders who assemble templates in Klaviyo. A large chunk of copywriting has already shifted towards AI tools, and software like this directly targets the build and design stages. It replaces the time-intensive process of laying out sections and manually linking products.

The templates are modular rather than hyper-bespoke. For roughly 80% of ecommerce brands that simply need clean, consistent campaign emails going out every week, that is more than enough.

Connecting your store and brand settings

Getting started requires two core integrations: Shopify and Klaviyo. Ripple needs Shopify to pull your live product catalogue, including images, links, titles, and basic descriptions. It needs Klaviyo so it can push finished templates into your account and read your audience segments.

Once connected, you configure your global brand assets inside the workspace settings:

  • Brand assets: Upload a high-resolution logo and set your core brand colours.
  • Button styling: Select square, curved, or rounded button corners, along with border and shadow preferences.
  • Layout shapes: Choose how product cards and structural image blocks are framed across your templates.

Setting this up properly at the start ensures every draft the AI generates adheres to your visual identity without manual tweaking later.

Generating campaign templates with AI prompts

When you start a new campaign, Ripple provides a library of pre-built layout frameworks, heavily tailored towards ecommerce and fashion. You pick a base layout that fits your intended structure, then prompt the engine on what to feature.

For example, you can tell the platform to focus on a specific shirt collection. The AI swaps out the placeholder copy, inserts matching product photography from your Shopify catalogue, applies your brand palette, and updates the call-to-action buttons automatically.

First drafts are rarely flawless. The default generated copy often leans on generic marketing phrasing, so you will want to rewrite subject lines and headlines to match your actual brand voice. The layout and product injection, however, happen in seconds.

Editing and campaign scheduling inside Ripple

After generation, every element inside the canvas remains fully editable. You can adjust body copy, swap specific image blocks, update button text, or insert dedicated educational text blocks if your campaign requires more storytelling.

Here's the thing: you can manage the entire send settings configuration without opening Klaviyo.

You set your send date and time, enable Smart Sending (which defaults to Klaviyo's standard 16-hour exclusion window), and choose whether to deliver in the recipient's local timezone. You can also select your inclusion and exclusion lists directly from the interface. Keep in mind that you cannot create new segments inside Ripple, so you will need to build your engaged segments in Klaviyo first for Ripple to pull them in.

The image-heavy email debate and deliverability

One structural factor to note is that Ripple exports its layouts primarily as sliced image blocks rather than live HTML text. Historically, sending emails composed entirely of images raised deliverability concerns with major inbox providers.

In practice, that risk is often overstated today. I have run extensive testing on image-sliced templates versus pure HTML builds, and deliverability differences are negligible for accounts with good sender reputation and proper authentication (DKIM, SPF, and DMARC).

Trading pure HTML text for the ability to build and schedule a campaign in under 10 minutes is a sensible compromise for most lean teams. That's a trade worth making.

Final Thoughts

Ripple will not replace complex strategy, bespoke bespoke flow architecture, or deep zero-party data segmentation. What it will do is cut campaign production time down from hours to minutes for standard promotional sends. If your bottleneck is simply getting polished, on-brand emails out the door consistently, it is well worth testing.
